WHAT A CAC QUERY REALLY MEANS
Let’s simplify it.
A CAC query simply means:
“Something is wrong or unclear in your application and CAC is not comfortable with it, and so you are asked to correct it before your registration or application is approved.”
It could be:
Missing information
Incorrect details
Or something that doesn’t meet CAC guidelines
The good news!
Most queries are fixable, if you know what to do. Yes, actually, most queries are fixable.
Query #1: Name Rejection
This is the most common one
Before now, Name rejection queries use to be a big deal, but since CAC upgraded their registration portal to the new ICRP portal, Business name queries is not really a big deal again. That is because the result of your Business name availability check comes out immediately even before you make payment. The only time you might have a little with Business name is if the AI approves your name wrongly and then human review spot it.
If that happens, then all you need is to go ahead and carry out a name substitution on the Name, and it’s going to be approved.
However, it is not exactly like this with NGO name approval. I already explained how to fix NGO name rejection in the video currently on your screen, I will also leave the link in the video description if NGO is your own issue, you can check it out.
Meanwhile, while trying to get your Business name approved, you want to avoid the following in the name you are considering;
* Your name should not be too similar to an existing business
* Avoid restricted words like “Federal”, “National”, “Government”, “Holding” and a couple of others. You cant just use these words without special permission
* Also make sure your proposed Business name is not too generic or lack qualifiers. For instance Digital Quill Venture will be easily approved than just Digital Quill
In this case, Venture is an example of a qualifier. Other qualifiers include words like ENTERPRISE, SALON, RESTAURANT, etc. They make a name look more like a Business than just an ordinary name
Like I said, this wont be a lot of problems because the registration portal would have already inform you if you are making a name error so that you can fix it before you make payment. So the CAC portal upgrade has significantly reduced the chances of Business name queries.
Query #2: Incorrect or Incomplete Details
This one catches a lot of people.
Why it happens
Mismatch between names and ID
Wrong date of birth
Incomplete address Typos (yes, even small ones matter)
This particular query are more common with Business name registration and most times, it has to do with issues around the PROPRIETOR’S ID CARD that was used
First, do know that for Business name, the only ID card that CAC accepts for now is the National ID card or the NIN slip, so if you have any query like this, just go ahead and use the right ID Card
Also, your National ID Card can still be rejected if its a fake ID. Fake IDs have empty barcodes and since its AI that approves Business names, then you will have to reprint a new national ID an NIN Office or NIN Accredited Agents, upload it and the issue will be solved
If you need help to fixing that, you can also reach out to through the whatsApp contact details 07033512807 or Muyiwa@cidimarketing.com
Generally, you want to Double-check every detail before submission and Ensure names match your ID exactly
How to fix it is to
Edit the application and correct the errors or
Re-upload accurate information as the case may be
Query #3: Object Clause Problems
There are so many sides to this particular types of query, depending on whether it’s a Business name, LTD, NGO or even GTE
But broadly speaking, understand that for Business name and LTD, your Business Objectives must suggest that your Business is purely a profit making objectives. For NGO, YOU MUST MAKE SURE THAT YOUR OBJECTIVES SUGGEST that you are not into any form of profit making, and for GTE, you can make profit but the ensure profit must go back into the company, individuals cant share the profit
Anything contrary in each category as explained, your Business objectives will most likely be queried.
Anything to take note of is that CAC doesn’t care about your goals, visions and missions, in fact they dont want to see such information in your Business description, dont be vague, go straight to the point and explain exactly what your organization is into, simple, straight to the point
Let me write about the most common issues in each categories in addition to the general rule I just listed
So for Business name, another major reason why your Business objectives maybe queried is if you are registering a Business whose profile is bigger than existing as a Business name. For example, you cannot register a school under a Business name, there are others, so you should do your findings before deciding to register a Business name and if you are already queried for such reason, you have to either re-edit your business objective or just abandon the registration outrightly and start a new one
For Limited Liability Company, you may get additional query about your Business objectives if your description suggest a business that does not belong to the Shares category you indicated.
Most people register small companies with shares of between 100k and N1m, But CAC has over 70 different share capital categories for Businesses that are categorized as Big Businesses. So if your Business is a million share capital and your Business objectives shows a Business with a 20m share capital, then you will be queried
This is a very common query many people have. Its simple, do your findings and study the share category of your Business before you go ahead to complete that section of your registration.
You can also manipulate how you describe the Business just if you need to use a particular description and you want to make sure the description fall within your preferred category.
You can also reach out to me if you need further help on this, my contact detail is in the Article.
Finally before I leave this particular one. Remember that the amount you pay for your registration depends on the share category of the business. if you choose a wrong shares category and you make payment, then you will also be queried to update your payment
If you insist on using that business objective and you are okay with paying the additional fees, then you cant make such payments on the CAC portal, you will have to go to remitta.net to make the payment, then upload your payment receipt on the CAC portal
In case you are struggling to know the exact extra payment to make, you can drop your question in the comment section or contact me for further assistance
This is a big one for NGO registrations.
Query #4: Document Upload Issues
This one is very common and very avoidable.
Why it happens:
Blurry or unreadable documents
Wrong file uploaded
Missing required documents
How to avoid it:
* Upload clear, properly labeled files
* Use the correct format
How to fix it:
* Re-upload the correct and clear documents at the upload page and then go ahead and resolve your query
Query #5: Newspaper Publication Errors (This is strictly For NGOs)
For Incorporated Trustees, Newspaper publication step is mandatory.
Of course if you dont fill the Newspaper publication details, you cannot submit your application for review, but if you dont do it the right way, your application will be queried.
So you want to make sure you fill in the date of publication accurately, and very important, you want to make sure you have waited for atleast 28days between when your Newspaper publication came out and when you submit to CAC.
Also, one very common query is when you dont capture your NEWSPAPER PUBLICATION page properly. You want to make sure you snap your reference page, and you must capture the date of the newspaper publication while doing so, and then mark your own publication conspicuously before submitting your application
*How to fix this is to Do the publication properly, upload evidence and then mark your Query as resolved
FINAL PRO TIPS
If you want zero stress, follow these:
Always review your application twice before submitting
Use clear and professional language
Don’t rush the process
When you get a query, respond quickly and correctly
Remember:
CAC is strict but predictable.
If you avoid these common mistakes, your CAC registration will be smooth and fast.
No unnecessary delays. No frustration.
Now, truth be told, it is impossible for me to cover all the possible queries here because, many times, some queries can be unique, depending on what you did wrong. But do know that 99% of CAC queries are solvable, even if it has already stressed you.
